Why underdo?

My friend Jill is an overachiever. I mean she can practically juggle anything, anytime. Especially if it involves hypocondriasm, infertility, graduate school, kids, and owning a rockband. In saying so, it is not an unusual act of friendship that when I expressed my discouragement on creating allergy-free food, that the next day I got the link (and co-authorship) to this wonderful blog, to help me keep my thoughts straight, and be accompanied with her shark-like (and unusual-flour-bread making) skills for our "food cures" ...

enjoy those pretzels.

my son is allergic to america.
or in other words...wheat, dairy, corn, peanuts, oats, cats, dogs, trees, grass.

this is only a recent discovery. and it is really not as bad as it sounds. i mean,
if you don't mind finding something tasty that does not contain flour, cheese, or corn syrup.
but there is a perk.

we went to florida this week.
while probing the airline for allergy alternatives...i found that they take it very seriously...(at least Southwest.) Anti-peanuters get to board the plane with the old and infirm. aka: before everyone else. and if you are allergic to peanuts- they will not serve a single one on board.

"it's okay. he's not anaphalactic..." i almost heard myself say.
but instead: "we'll take it!"

and when they served everyone on board a bag of dry, boring pretzels (which he still can't have)-
i felt somewhat satisfied for my baby.
(who, by the way, harbors no begrudging for the delightful world not allowed.)

Dear Pomegranate You Delicious

= breakfast. lunch. dinner.

was inspired by this:

Spinach Pomegranate Salad

1 small bag spinach
1 bag 'spring mix' salad
1 c shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
2 c cottage cheese (reserve for later)

Dressing
1 c light olive or canola oil
1/2 c white vinegar
1/2 c sugar
1 Tbsp poppy seed
1/2 Tbsp minced dried onions
1 tsp salt
2 c sliced mushrooms

Combine all dressing ingredients and let sit overnight or several hours. Combine salad ingredients in bowl, add dressing and mix. Scoop cottage cheese on top in the center. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds on top.

Which is equally delightful and not as annoying as this incessant underliner.
go away.

Roloff Love

i tried to think of a great way to say this
but i surrender....
i love amy roloff.
this woman is completely inspirational.
walks on her counter tops to reach the microwave-
yet has carried and delivered twins.
and is raising them.
with two others.
what would that be like having your six year old
taller than you?
driving cars?
carrying a carseat in?
health limitations.
society limitations.
normal life limitations.
my hero.
i suppose
the reason i completely adore her
is this incredible ability she has to
make the most of every opportunity.
and to see things as such.
if my children ever view me
as her's view her...
i will be absolutely content with my life.
i know. sappy, reality tv nerd.
so sincerely, pleasantly, motivationally
inspired.

Gerber President

Lou: "Mom why do we have a president? Is it so when the robots come, he can shoot them with cannons?"

Dad: "Benny you have a baby-food beard!"
DJ: "Dad. It's Gerber."

Anatomy 101

Boy or Girl?
My kids really want to know:

We invited my parents to dinner Saturday. While eating, DJ asked:
"Grandpa, you have a penis?"

This morning Lou looked at me and said: "Boobs are part of your body. Girls have them. But not boys...and not grandmas."

weasel's prayer

weston got in a car accident. it sounds severe.
three people are dead and he is being life-flighted to a hospital now. grandpa sent word (through the great texting family tree...)
say a prayer.

my response disturbed and comforted? me.

i like prayer. it works for me. i love it.
but i closed my eyes, waited for some words -
and nothing.

the obvious prayer is that he will be okay. right this second.
you've never known a person like weasel. or his parents. or siblings. my heart hurts wondering what might happen. i can't imagine the loss and sadness if he...really wasn't okay.

i could pray for comfort, yes. strength, vital. endurance. for him, and his family. and i will.

but life how i want it? not always the best thing.
i've learned enough in my meager experience to know that i don't know the whole story.
i often clearly lack the larger perspective. last month, i planted a tree right in the middle of our most exquisite view. a spindly, little trunk in front of our gigantic, gorgeous, mountain, breakfast-delight.

a faithless cynic? or surrendering to real trust in God?

i guess in a round about way, i am putting words to my personal surrender.
and finding a glimpse of comfort in the conundrum.
i am surrendering.
my will to His.
to accept His will.
and feel my Daddy's love.

And please-
be with weasel.
